Serena Farrar
Graduation date: May 2024
Where did you find yourself immediately after graduation?
I went home for a bit, then came back to New Orleans to start interviewing! I landed my job in the end of June.
What are you up to now?
I currently serve as the Administrative Program Coordinator at the Mary Amelia Center for Women’s Health Equity Research, a center within Tulane SPHTM. I handle day-to-day administration for the center, including financial matters, scheduling, social media, and event coordination.
Which internships, organizations, or classes prepared you for your first job?
Every class you take in the BSPH program is an opportunity not just to learn public health information, but also soft skills that will help you succeed professionally. Looking back, it’s easier to see that you can take experience/skills from everything you do. Specifically, Public Health Program Implementation & Management is the course that comes to mind as most relevant in my current role.
Do you have any advice for public health students?
Take advantage of the resources offered by Tulane, because you’ve already paid for them and they won’t be as available after graduation! Also, remember that your professors are incredibly smart and accomplished in public health—don’t be afraid to ask for advice or guidance!
